The Township of Union School District

EI Associates has been retained by the Township of Union Board of Education to perform architectural and engineering services for the following district-wide improvements:

1) High School Boiler Replacement

The Township of Union School District (USD) intends to execute a boiler replacement project at the High School. The improvements consist of the replacement of the existing Kewanee horizontal scotch marine fire tube steam boilers. The existing boilers are each rated at 350HP and provide low pressure steam for comfort heating and to an existing steam/water heat exchanger for areas of the school heated with hot water. The existing boilers have exceeded serviceable life and require replacement. Recently each year the boilers require numerous tube replacements and refractory repair.

2) Ceiling, Lighting and Fire Alarm Replacement at Union High School

The existing Ceilings, Light Fixtures and Fire Alarm system at the Union High School are antiquated and in need of replacement. The District intends to replace the existing ceilings (ceiling and grid) with new acoustical ceilings at the same height as the existing ceilings. We will include in the Contract Documents a deduct alternate to paint and reuse the existing ceiling grid in classrooms on a Unit Price basis. The existing lighting will be replaced with new 2’ X 4’ recessed, direct/indirect LED light fixtures in the same location as the existing light fixtures. The new lighting will utilize the existing lighting circuits and switches. The scope of work covers approximately 144 classrooms, small group instruction rooms, auditorium, offices and the corridors on both the first and second floors. Four recently renovated classrooms will not receive new ceilings and lighting.

3) Window Replacement at Union HS, Burnet MS and Livingston ES

The District intends to replace the existing Gym windows at Union High School, Gym and classroom #138B windows at Burnet Middle School and Gym and cafeteria windows at Livingston elementary. The existing windows have exceeded their useful life expectancy. The new windows will match the existing configuration and will have a combination of fixed and awning projection units along with insulated panels. The new windows will be dual glazed. The work will include all associated painting and finishing of interior trims and surfaces affected by the window replacement, all three schools Gym windows will be replaced with Kalwall translucent wall systems panels.

4) Burnet Middle School Intercom System Replacement

The existing telephone based intercom system at the Brunet Middle School is antiquated and in need of replacement. The system will be replaced with a system similar to one that was recently installed in the elementary schools.
