EI’s design challenge was to create a children’s educational village for pre-K, kindergarten and first-grade children that was friendly and memorable, yet functioned as a supportive early-childhood learning environment. The Quarles nine-acre, sloped site is a village of small classroom buildings and support facilities linked together by outdoor walkways and play areas. The campus expansion consists of two new one-story 5,000 sq.ft. classroom buildings, and a 1, 200 sq.ft. classroom addition to an existing multipurpose building. Each was designed and constructed as a spirited composition of geometric shapes, warm materials and colors.
