Comprehensive District-Wide Assessment and Master Plan

The School District of South Orange & Maplewood

EI Associates recently completed a comprehensive assessment of all 14 District schools and support facilities for the School District of South Orange & Maplewood. The assessment covered over 1M sf of area and addressed physical condition as well as educational program deficiencies.

Using a 2-pronged approach, EI’s Architects and Engineers assessed the existing sites, facilities and systems while EI’s in-house Educational Specialist interviewed District administrators to identify educational program needs and assess each facility’s ability to support current and future educational program goals. EI organized the assessment information according to 7 Categories (Site, Building Envelope, Interior, Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection & Educational Adequacy) and 4 Priority Levels which provide the District with measured project needs over a 15 year period.

The Assessment information was compiled in a 4-volume Master Plan report, including conceptual plans, to serve as a “road map” for the District so that projects can be strategically funded, planned and executed. Recommendations include repurposing of inefficient or underutilized spaces, purposeful additions and comprehensive renovations to all District facilities.
