Bensalem Township High School

Bensalem Township School District
Project Type: Renovation
Project Area: 22,815 SF Addition, 504,000 SF Alterations

EI Associates has worked with Bensalem Township School District since 2006. The existing Bensalem High School was constructed in 1969 with a large addition in 1973 and a new competition gymnasium addition in 2012. The school is situated on a 111-acre site, which is centrally located within the School District. The existing building has had only minor upgrades since its construction. EI was retained to design the High School renovation, fully modernize the older portions of the building including renovations needed to create four distinct academies within the complex. The academies include; 9th Grade, Business and International Studies, STEM, and Visual and Performing Arts. Each academy functions as a “school within a school” connected by a Center Core area which includes an Internet Cafe, Media Center, and a flexible student dining and outdoor courtyard. The existing swimming pool was replaced with a new, larger and improved facility to meet current competition requirements. The completed building also has new main entrances with a central administration area as well as clear signage in the corridors to guide students between Academies.

The project was designed to obtain LEED® Gold Certification. EI Associates also has successfully assisted the District in obtaining a $2 million grant from Alternative & Clean Energy Program.
