V.I. Technologies, Inc., a leader in the rapidly emerging field of pathogen inactivation of blood products used in blood transfusion, retained EI Associates to design and build this revolutionary, ultra-clean pharmaceutical facility in a converted elementary school building. The operation produces a unique new blood plasma that is guaranteed to be a virus-free, which is critical in the AIDs era. Critical to this operation, the plasma undergoes a “detergent” process, which deactivates viruses, particularly HIV, which causes AIDS, and pathogens, which cause hepatitis. The technology incorporated into the design includes a Class 100 clean area, two staggered process trains, and a Viral-Inactivated (V-I) area for the production and final packaging process.
