The existing Selinsgrove Borough and Snyder County Libraries, Inc. shared building was in need of infrastructure upgrades and additional space for offices, community meeting space and to support the expanding library system. The goal from the on-set was to design a sustainable and environmentally responsible building.
The design incorporates sustainable design features that include geothermal heating and cooling, a vegetative roof atop the expanded Borough Council Chambers and a rain water collection system that can store rain water for the purpose of irrigating the adjacent Selinsgrove Commons plantings. The completed renovation project has achieved LEED® Gold Certification, making it a distinguished sustainable design.
The building now offers a shared entrance from the Selinsgrove Commons. In conjunction with the renovated space for offices and storage, a new community room provides space for both Borough and community events. The Library was enlarged by a three story addition that will provide the space needed to house their current collection and expanded services that now includes a new Children's Library.
