GROUNDBREAKING SET FOR SELINSGROVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FIRST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DESIGNED FOR LEED® SILVER IN SNYDER COUNTY

HARRISBURG, PA, - EI Associates, Harrisburg architectural firm announced the groundbreaking for the Selinsgrove Elementary School, Selinsgrove Area School District, Selinsgrove, PA. (Snyder County). Groundbreaking occurred on June 23 at 6:30 pm, 600 North Broad Street. This project will be the first elementary school in Snyder County designed for (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) LEED® Silver Certification. The Elementary School serves Kindergarten, First and Second grades, and will be renovated and expanded to accommodate the projected student enrollment and meet the School District’s new and expanded educational program needs, providing educational spaces and recreational facilities that may be utilized by the School and allowing for more efficient bus transportation of the Elementary students.
The Selinsgrove Elementary School is expected to be completed December of 2009.
The total project costs for the Elementary School facility totals just over $18.4 million.
Some of the Green components that will be part of the Selinsgrove Elementary School include implementing a storm water management plan that utilizes a vegetative roof, rain gardens / bioretention, and underground detention / infiltration recharge chambers; providing a connection between indoor spaces and the outdoors through the introduction of daylight and views into the regularly occupied areas of the building; the project will use low-emitting materials, over 30% recycled materials. To promote water efficiency this project will use dual-flush toilets, waterless urinals, and an innovative kitchen design which will reduce water consumption.
The school addition is situated on the existing Selinsgrove Elementary School site which is part of the District owned campus and will share parking areas, play areas and outdoor amphitheater with the other School buildings on the campus. The Selinsgrove Area School District is committed to enhancing their educational goals for the students and staff and to minimize the environmental impact of a building program
