It's back to school time for students across the area but students in part of Schuylkill County have a lot more to adjust to than new teachers. They're heading back to class in a brand new school.
It's not the first day of school at North Schuylkill Elementary School, but it looks it judging from the crowd.
Students and parents showed up Monday to check out their new digs.
Students from schools in Ashland and Frackville are now part of one district.
School board president Robert Wetzel couldn't wait to show it off the new facility.
"The technology of this building is second to none. The students will have what they need to compete with any school district in the county, actually with most school districts," Wetzel said.
After a quick ribbon cutting it was time to head inside to get the tour of the $20 million facility.
It was obvious the place has all the bells and whistles, including central air, a full-size gym with automatic bleachers, two computer labs, and electronic smart boards instead of chalk boards.
Kindergarten teacher Margaret Bernosky loves that her classroom is a closed area. "Now if the kids are getting tired we can stop and sing and do fun things without disturbing any other teachers," she said.
"I really like the K wing. I think it's just great that we're so close to the playgrounds. We can get right out there from our classrooms," said kindergaten teacher Katie Leibig.
All the upgrades lead Wendy Bolinsky to believe her son's school experience this year will be better than ever. "We're certainly not disappointed. It looks like the technology is amazing and that the kids are going to have a wonderful education," she said.
