FUTURE GROWTH AND PROGRAM CHANGES LEAD TO EXPANSION

HARRISBURG, PA, - EI Associates, a Harrisburg architectural firm , attended the groundbreaking for the $46 million expansion of the Waynesboro High School, Waynesboro Area School District (Franklin County, PA) http://www.wasd.k12.pa.us:16080/schools/senior/BuildingProject/index.htm. The Project has been designed to serve the education al needs of the current student population, while the core facilities are equipped to handle a 1,600 student population. Eleven approved vocational classrooms have been added to the schedule creating a Comprehensive High School Program.

Mr. Barry Dallara, Superintendent at Waynesboro Area School District says that, ?The project design meets the educational needs of our high school, and will greatly improve the learning environment for students.?

The existing High School (190,000 SF) will undergo a complete renovation, with all teaching spaces meeting current Pennsylvania State size requirements and having a standard layout. The cafeteria service will be upgraded to a ?food court? style layout, with seating for 400 students, four times daily. The media center will be relocated and expanded to serve as the ?center of learning? for the High School.

The new addition (106,000 SF) will house a new accessible, secure main entrance, a 1600 student auditorium with balcony, a 3 court student gymnasium with locker room facilities, 2 auxiliary gymnasiums, the high school administration and guidance suites, a new music suite, and house a new ADA multistory elevator. This addition will have a separate entrance and lobby for after school events utilizing the gymnasium and auditorium. The new addition will have multiple floor levels and connections to the existing High School to maintain a positive flow of indoor traffic and reduce site impact.

The new mechanical system utilizing ground source heat pump technology (geo-thermal), and a sprinkler system will serve both the existing building and the addition. The plumbing, and electrical will also be replaced utilizing waterless urinal s and more efficient lighting.
