EI Associates Celebrates the Dedication of the Kennedy Early Childhood Center
October 4, 2018
On August 26th, EI Associates and the Greater Nanticoke Area School District celebrated the new Kennedy Early Childhood Center with a public ribbon-cutting ceremony and an open house. Board members, school administration, teachers, students, parents, and members of the community celebrated the official dedication followed by a tour through the new building.
Students in pre-K through second grade began learning in the new building on the 4th of September. The new building is an addition to the original Kennedy Elementary School, which opened in 1964. The new addition includes 19 new classrooms, a nurse’s suite, principal’s office, conference room, two pre-K classrooms, a full service cafeteria, 3 small groups instruction rooms, and a large group instruction room. The project began in April 2017 and cost approximately $8.8 million.
Special features for the Kennedy Early Childhood Center will include flexible spaces, both small and large group instruction areas, multi-purpose and physical education spaces, community-use spaces, student dining and food service upgrades, a health suite, and support areas for students and administration.
The Kennedy Early Childhood Center has been designed to attain USGBC LEED® Silver Certification and will be used as an educational tool for the District demonstrating the benefits of building sustainability.
